SLU PIANIST TO PERFORM IN RECITAL
CANTON – St. Lawrence University Pianist Barbara Phillips-Farley will perform
in a recital at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, in Gilbert Recital Hall,
Griffiths Arts Center on campus. The event, open to the public free of
charge, will include performances of Ravel's 1905 Sonatine; Beethoven's
Sonata in C, Op. 53; and selections from Teddy Wilson's "original
arrangements" of songs from the 1920s and 1930s.
Phillips-Farley has been at St. Lawrence since 1990. As staff accompanist,
she provides piano and harpsichord support for the Laurentian Singers,
University Chorus and student recitals. She is also the principal piano
instructor for the music department, teaching private piano lessons and
one course each semester. This spring, Phillips-Farley is teaching the
course Mozart and the Classical Tradition.
She has performed new art music, both for chamber ensembles and
for solo piano, with the Center for New Music at the University of Iowa
and has provided harpsichord support for the Orchestra of Northern New
York. In addition, Phillips-Farley plays keyboards with the Radio Bob
Band.
