BRITISH AUTHOR PETER HO DAVIES FIRST IN 2004-05 SLU WRITERS SERIES

CANTON – Peter Ho Davies, recently named one of the 20 Best Young British 
Novelists by Granta magazine, is the first author in the 2004-05 Writers Series 
at St. Lawrence University, appearing on Thursday, September 30, at 8 p.m. in 
Herring-Cole. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
	The author of the story collections The Ugliest House in the World (1997) 
and Equal Love (2000), Davies' work has appeared in Harpers, The Atlantic Monthly, 
The Paris Review, The Washington Post and the Chicago Tribune, among other 
publications, and his short fiction has been widely anthologized, including 
selections for Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards 1998 and Best American Short 
Stories 1995, 1996 and 2001. 
      The Ugliest House in the World was awarded the John Llewelyn Rhys and 
PEN/Macmillan Prizes in the U.K. as well as the H.L. Davis Oregon Book Award 
in the U.S.; Equal Love was a New York Times "Notable Book of the Year." Davies 
has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment 
for the Arts and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. He has taught at the 
University of Oregon and Emory University and directs the MFA program in 
creative writing at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
