Talk On Permaculture At St. Lawrence April 14

CANTON - Bill MacKently, owner of St. Lawrence Nurseries in Potsdam, will lead an information session on permaculture gardens at St. Lawrence University on Saturday, April 14, at 4:30 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

A permaculture garden, called Fruit for the Future, is being planned at the University. The student-initated project, to be located behind Commons College on Park Street, aims to be visually appealing, sustainable and productive, yielding seasonal fruits, nuts and herbs for human consumption and also providing habitat for beneficial birds, insects and other animals. The garden is being planned according to permaculture design principles and grown using organic and sustainable methods.

A long-term goal of the project is to have the garden develop into an outdoor classroom, and have a connection to the Canton community through workshops, lectures and events held on the site.

MacKently is an expert on permaculture and will address its philosophy, design principle and growing global movement.
