A List 1/20/03 PEACE CONFERENCE TO BE HELD AT ST. LAWRENCE JAN. 28-31 CANTON - A peace conference, called "The Real Situation: A Peaceful Anti-War Uproar," will be held at St. Lawrence University January 28 through 31. All events associated with the conference are open to the public, free of charge. The keynote address will be given by Lester Edwin Ruiz on Tuesday, January 28, at 7 p.m. in Eben Holden, on "Cultures of Peace: Perspectives, Problems, and Prospects." A panel discussion, on religion, peace and violence, will follow his talk. Formerly a professor of theology and culture and associate dean for graduate programs at the New York Theological Seminary and associate professor of peace studies at International Christian University, in Tokyo, Japan, Ruiz has written and lectured widely on peace and social change; nationalism and social movements; and theology, culture and politics. He has been active in such organizations as the World Order Models Project, the International Peace Research Institute, International Institutes for Peace Education, and other local advocacy groups for justice and peace. Ruiz is on the editorial committee of Alternatives: Global, Local, Political, and is co-editor, with Richard Falk and R.B.J. Walker, of the series "Global Horizons," published by Routledge.
