Joanna Patouris '14 Awarded Prestigious Davis UWC Fellowship
CANTON - St. Lawrence University junior Joanna Patouris was recently granted a highly competitive Davis United World Colleges (UWC) Scholars Fellowship in Development Project Management for a program taking place this summer in Washington, D.C.
Patouris, who is majoring in economics and environmental studies, combined, and sociology, will take part in a three-week professional training program at the Development Project Management Institute beginning at the end of May. The program prepares students for a career in managing international development projects. The program is for aspiring practitioners in international development, relief and social change. Training covers project planning, stakeholder engagement, and strategic partnership and social entrepreneurship.
Patouris, a native on Mbabane, Swaziland, attended the Waterford Kamhlaba UWC in her hometown.
Together with his wife, Gale, philanthropist Shelby M.C. Davis has funded the growing Davis UWC Scholars Program since it began in 2000 with five colleges. The Program is committed to building cross-cultural understanding across campuses and ultimately throughout the world in this century. It provides scholarship grants to select American universities and liberal arts colleges in support of students from all over the world who have completed their pre-university studies at United World College schools.
