SLU SENIOR EXHIBITING WORK IN BRUSH ART GALLERY
CANTON - A four-day installation of work by St. Lawrence University senior Nick J.
Alena, of Lyons, NY, will be exhibited in the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery on campus
from Saturday, December 16, at 7 p.m., continuing through December 20. The installation,
titled "Panoply," is the culmination of a semester-long independent study project that
Alena participated in, with Assistant Professor of Fine Arts Amy Hauber.
Alena says of the work, "It is meant to convey the message that materialistic
possessions distract and disconnect us from societal interactions and individual
development. Through the framework of inflatable synthetic pods with central power
sources, the misplacement of values in today's society due to outlets created by
the continual growth of consumerism will be exhibited."
Alena is a mathematics and fine arts major, with a minor in statistics. A graduate of
Lyons Central School, he studied in Italy in 2005, through St. Lawrence's international
study program.
