'Music For Brownbaggers' Presented At St. Lawrence Chapel

CANTON - Organist Sondra Goldsmith Proctor will present a series of recitals in St. Lawrence University's Gunnison Memorial Chapel this fall, called "Music for Brownbaggers." Each of the events is open to the public, free of charge, and will be held during the noon hour. Those attending are encouraged to bring a bag lunch to enjoy while listening to the music.

All of the recitals, held monthly on Fridays, begin at 12:15 p.m., and will end so that faculty and students can get to 1 p.m. classes. All also celebrate the International Year of the Organ.

Scheduled for the fall semester are, September 12, Franck and Bach; October 3, Music of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur; November 14, Thanksgiving and Joy!; and December 12, Noel.

Proctor, a well-known and respected organist and choral conductor in the eastern United States was, for nearly three decades, the director of music and arts/organist for Westmoreland Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, D.C. She has played recitals in many venues in the United States including the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Proctor is also the founder and director of Circle Singers, a chamber choir in Washington, D.C. She also had a long-term association with The Paul Hill Chorale and Washington Singers, based at the Kennedy Center. Proctor serves on the National Committee on Professional Networking and Public Relations for the American Guild of Organists, celebrating the International Year of the Organ.
