'African Heritage' Organ Recital Offered At St. Lawrence
CANTON - Organist Sondra Goldsmith Proctor will offer a free concert celebrating "Our
African Heritage" on Friday, February 22, in Gunnison Memorial Chapel at St. Lawrence
University. The recital, open to the public free of charge, is designed to be enjoyed
by people during the lunch hour, and so begins at 12:15 p.m. and ends promptly at
12:55 p.m. Those attending are welcome to bring along a "brown bag" lunch.
The program will include works based on African-American spirituals.
Proctor, a well-known and respected organist and choral conductor in the eastern
United States and especially in the Washington, DC, area, was, for nearly three
decades, the director of music and arts and organist for Westmoreland Congregational
United Church of Christ in Washington. She has played recitals in many venues in
the eastern United States.
Noontime recitals are also planned for Friday, March 7, and Friday, April 11,
in Gunnison Memorial Chapel from 12:15 to 12:55 p.m.
