Pipe Organ Lecture & Concert At St. Lawrence February 7
CANTON - A concert and lecture celebrating organ music will be held at St. Lawrence University on Saturday, February 7, in Gunnison Memorial Chapel; both are open to the public, free of charge.
A pre-concert lecture, titled "The Inner Mysteries of the Pipe Organ," will begin at 7:15 p.m. The speaker is Mark Baumann, of Kerner and Merchant Pipe Organ Builders in Syracuse. The firm has been rebuilding and maintaining the pipe organ in the chapel.
The concert, featuring organist Sondra Goldsmith Proctor and the Ad Hoc Singers, begins at 8 p.m. It is titled "France: Couperin to Messiaen."
Proctor, a well-known and respected organist and choral conductor in the eastern United States and especially in the Washington, DC, area, was, for nearly three decades, the director of music and arts and organist for Westmoreland Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington. She has played recitals in many venues in the eastern United States.
