SLU String Orchestra to Perform April 26 and 28

SLU Orchestra

CANTON – The St. Lawrence University String Orchestra will present their spring concert, “Memorable Music from Movies, TV, and Video Games,” on Friday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Russell Opera House in Russell and on Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. in the Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall in the Griffiths Arts Center at St. Lawrence University. Both events are open to the public, free of charge.
 
Joining the string orchestra for the first time will be a full complement of woodwinds, brass and percussion, culminating in a full symphony orchestra of 56 musicians. The additional players are made up of St. Lawrence students and faculty members, along with several experienced community musicians, teachers and exceptional area high school students. The orchestra is conducted by Director Christian Hosmer.

Featured works on the program will include music from “Star Wars,” the “Lord of The Rings” series, “Star Trek” (2009) and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” The orchestra also will perform music from popular video games such as “HALO” and “World of Warcraft.” The group also will play works from Disney classics and “The Inner Light” episode from “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”
