SLU PHYSICS PROFESSOR PART OF 'SCIENCE & THE SPIRITUAL' PROGRAM

CANTON -- St. Lawrence University Associate Professor of Physics Aileen
A. O'Donoghue is one of a select group of 60 scientists from around the
world chosen to participate in an international program exploring "Science
and the Spiritual Quest."
The project will involve four groups of scientists, meeting in
private workshops to hear the views of their colleagues and to formulate
some of their own thoughts on the similarities and differences between
their scientific work and the religious or spiritual quest as they
understand it. O'Donoghue will meet with a group of physicists and
cosmologists in Paris in January of 2001. Following that workshop, additional
workshops and presentations at conferences and symposia may follow.
Science and the Spiritual Quest is a program of the Center for
Theology and the Natural Sciences at the University of California at Berkeley,
with funding from the John Templeton Foundation.
O'Donoghue is a graduate of Fort Lewis College, with a master's
degree and Ph.D. from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.
She joined the faculty at St. Lawrence in 1988. She is known to many in the
North Country for her column called "Mountain Skies," published in Adirondac
magazine.
