ST. LAWRENCE ODK CHAPTER WINS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
CANTON – St. Lawrence University's chapter of the national leadership
organization Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) has received the Presidential Award
of Excellence, the highest recognition than an individual "circle" may
achieve.
St. Lawrence's ODK Circle received one of only two of the awards
given this year, chosen from over 300 eligible circles nation-wide. The
University's Circle is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
To be eligible, a circle must have received the Superior Circle
Award for three consecutive years. The Superior Circle Award is given to
circles that sponsor a minimum
of two substantial campus-wide programs which are consistent with the
purposes of ODK.
Among the programming initiatives undertaken by the University's
Circle are:
- Service on campus – Participation in programs including holiday
bell-ringing on behalf of the Salvation Army; Make A Difference Day and
Take Back The Night.
- Leadership development – The circle is co-sponsor of an annual
student leadership conference and conducts a program for local Girl Scouts,
leading to a leadership badge.
- Faculty/student dialogue – Members of the circle prepared and gave
a presentation on the 50-year history of ODK at the University.
- Service to the community – The circle conducted a fund-raiser for
a local family that includes four children, in order to provide them with
a Thanksgiving dinner and items on their Christmas "wish lists."
The ODK Society is the national leadership honor society for college
students, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni that recognizes and
encourages superior scholarship, leadership and exemplary character.
