November Noon Organ Recital At SLU Features Work Of French Composer
CANTON - The noon organ recital at St. Lawrence University on Friday, November 30, features the music of Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937). The event is open to the public, free of charge, and those in attendance are encouraged to bring lunch.
Widor was a composer, organist and professor. As organist of Saint-Sulpice for 64 years, he took both composition and organ technique to new levels of beauty, and as professor of organ at the Conservatory of Paris, he demanded that his students become proficient in the organ works of Bach. Widor was a noted improviser, a colorful registrant and the leader of composition for French organ literature.
