A List 1/10/05 SLU SCHEDULES SERIES OF 'NON-VIOLENT' EVENTS CANTON – "A Fortnight of Non-Violent Events" will take place at St. Lawrence University from January 17 through January 30, beginning with the celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and ending with "Ahisma Day." Ahimsa Day (January 30) was inspired by a group of schoolchildren in France for the purpose of creating a better world. They invited members of the human family to take a day off, reflect upon their lives, and consider seriously what they could do to make the world a better place. The date is the anniversary of the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, and this year, coincides with the date of scheduled elections in Iraq.
