NOBEL 'MINI-LECTURES' PANEL SET AT ST. LAWRENCE

CANTON - Faculty members in a variety of fields will give
"mini-lectures" about the topics winning Nobel Prizes in a
presentation scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, at 7:30 p.m.
in Room 123, Griffiths Arts Center, on the St. Lawrence University
campus. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
	Every October, members of the Royal Swedish Academy of
Sciences, The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet, and The
Norwegian Nobel Committee select a number of scholars, artists,
and statespersons to honor for their groundbreaking contributions
to the fields of chemistry, economic sciences, literature, medicine,
peace, and physics. While the contributions of, for example, Nobelist
Mother Theresa to the field of peace may be known to most, the
contributions of other prize winners remains mysterious, even to
Nobelists in other fields. St. Lawrence Associate Professor of
Physics Daniel W. Koon is seeking to remedy the situation by
organizing the panel.
	While the actual composition of the panel may change as a
result of the specific Nobel selections, faculty members who have
agreed to participate in the panel include J. Kerr Grant, English;
Jeffery Greathouse, chemistry; Steven Horwitz, economics; Koon,
physics; Stephan Kroll, economics; Assis Malaquias, government;
Nadia Marano, chemistry; and Aileen O'Donoghue, physics.
	For more information, contact Koon, at 315-229-5494.
