'NIGHT AT THE OPERA' PRESENTED BY UNIVERSITY CHORUS

CANTON - "A Night at the Opera" is the theme for spring concerts 
by the University Chorus on Saturday, April 12, at 8 p.m. and 
Sunday, April 13, at 4 p.m., both in Gulick Theatre at St. Lawrence 
University. The concerts are open to the public, free of charge.
	The University Chorus is directed by Barry Torres; Barbara 
Phillips-Farley is accompanist. "A Night at the Opera" features 
soloist Deborah Massell, soprano, of the Crane School of Music in 
Potsdam. Several choristers will also be soloists: tenor Eric Key; 
soprano Arlene Babich; alto Marilyn Constantine; tenor Brian 
Watson and bass Michael Farley. A small pit orchestra of local 
professional musicians will accompany the chorus, in addition to 
Phillips-Farley, including Chris Hosmer, Roxanne Woy and Kim Wangler.
	Program highlights include "March of the Toreadors," from 
Carmen, by Georges Bizet; "Brindisi," from La Traviata, by Giuseppe 
Verdi; "Vilia," from The Merry Widow, by Franz Lehar; "Polovetsian 
Dances," from Prince Igor, by Alexander Borodin; the Finale from 
The Pirates of Penzance, by Gilbert and Sullivan; and "Italian Street 
Song," from Naughty Marietta, by Victor Herbert.
