NEW TRUSTEES ELECTED AT ST. LAWRENCE

CANTON - The Board of Trustees of St. Lawrence University has 
elected two graduates to positions as new trustees. David B. 
Laird Jr., Stillwater, Minnesota, and John P. Loughlin, Des Moines, 
Iowa, will begin six-year terms on July 1.
	Laird, a 1965 graduate of St. Lawrence, is president and chief 
executive officer of the Minnesota Private College Council, Fund and 
Research Foundation in St. Paul. He earned a master of education degree 
from St. Lawrence in 1966 and the Ph.D. from the University of Michigan 
in 1972. Laird held several positions on the Minnesota Higher Education 
Coordinating Board, culminating as deputy executive director. From 1981 
to 1986 he was senior vice president and director of the higher education 
group of Springsted, Inc., an independent financial advisory firm. Laird 
was vice president for planning and development and secretary of Carleton 
College from 1986 to 1988, when he took his current position.
	Loughlin, president of the Meredith Corporation broadcasting group 
since 1997, graduated from St. Lawrence in 1979 and earned an M.B.A. from 
the Harvard Business School in 1985. The Meredith Corporation is one of 
America's leading media and marketing companies, involved in magazine and 
book publishing, television broadcasting, and integrated marketing. He had 
been a vice president and publishing director of the publishing group, 
responsible for Traditional Home and Country Home magazines, Meredith Custom 
Publishing and the book-publishing arm within the company. Loughlin previously 
was senior vice president/group publisher with the New York Times Company 
Women's Magazines prior to joining Meredith in 1993.
	Trustees also re-elected nine members to new terms on the Board: 
Mary Fishel Bijur, New York; Karen Diesl Bruett, Far Hills, New Jersey; 
Lloyd B. Cox Jr., Bedford Hills, New York; Janet K. Langlois, New York; 
Allan Newell, Hammond; Michael W. Ranger, New York; Richard S. Robie, Danvers, 
Massachusetts; David L. Torrey, Montreal; and Lawrence J. Winston, Greenvale, 
New York. 
	E.B. Wilson, Chathamport, Massachusetts, was re-elected chairman of 
the Board; Bruett was re-elected vice chair; and John H. Rostenberg, Stamford, 
Connecticut, was re-elected secretary. 
	Two members of the Board whose terms have expired were elected to 
emeritus status. Archie F. MacAllaster, a trustee for 22 years, and John W. 
Priesing, a trustee since 1995, were given the honor.
