St. Lawrence Expanding Options For International Study

CANTON - Through partnerships with institutions in other countries, St. Lawrence University will expand the number and variety of options for students to study abroad. New partnership programs have been established in Thailand, New Zealand, Japan, Italy and the Czech Republic.

The University also has plans to expand offerings for shorter-term international study, particularly in the summer. About 50 percent of all St. Lawrence students study internationally at some point in their University experience.

New semester-long offerings are:
- Payap University, Chiang Mai, Thailand. Study through this partnership has been finalized; a pilot program began in the fall of 2009.
- University of Otago at Dunedin, New Zealand.
- Kansai Gaidai, Japan. This program adds to the University's offerings in Nagoya and Tokyo, Japan.
- University of Georgia program in Cortona, Italy, specifically for junior and senior fine arts/studio majors and minors, and Lorenzo de Medici programs in Rome and Tuscania, Italy.
- Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Program in Prague, Czech Republic.

The University operates its own programs of study in France, Spain, Austria, England and Kenya, and has options through other institutions in Australia, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, India and Trinidad/Tobago.

This summer, St. Lawrence offers courses involving international study in Ireland, Guatemala, Mexico, Canada, Senegal, Kenya and Ethiopia. The University is exploring possibilities for additional Summerterm courses in those locations, as well as some others, including Israel and Japan.
