TWO TRUSTEES ELECTED TO ST. LAWRENCE BOARD

CANTON - The St. Lawrence University Board of Trustees has elected 
two new members, Karen W. Wachtmeister, of Warrenton, Virginia, and 
Charles W.S. MacKenzie, of Millersville, Maryland.
	Wachtmeister is an educator and community volunteer who has 
been a member of the Highland School Board since 1993; she is vice 
chair of its executive committee and chair of its education committee. 
In addition, Wachtmeister is a founding member of the Great Meadows 
Outdoor Foundation; a past chair of the Fauquier County Library Board; 
and past-president of the Highland School Parent Association. She also 
served on the parents committee of the Salisbury School, and co-chairs 
its Centennial Campaign. A graduate of Texas Christian University, 
Wachtmeister has done post-graduate work in special education at the 
University of Colorado. She and her husband, Edward, are the parents 
of 1999 St. Lawrence graduate Erik Wachtmeister and Carl Wachtmeister, 
a member of the Class of 2005. The Wachtmeisters have been active 
members of the St. Lawrence Parents Leadership Gift Committee, and 
in 2001, funded the Wachtmeister Field Laboratory, part of the 
University's Integrated Science Education Initiative. She has been 
elected to a six-year term on the Board of Trustees, beginning July 1.
	MacKenzie, who graduated from St. Lawrence in 1994 and earned 
a master's degree in education from the University in 1995, is vice 
president of MacKenzie Investment Corporation, a subsidiary of the 
MacKenzie Companies, in Baltimore, Maryland. He serves as director 
of acquisitions, development and investment sales for the family-owned, 
multifaceted commercial real-estate company, specializing in 
development, sales, leasing, management and ownership of 
income-producing properties. Prior to joining the MacKenzie 
Companies, he was an advertising consultant for Harley-Davidson 
and a sales manager for Chesapeake Bay magazine. While a student 
at St. Lawrence, MacKenzie received the William D. Romey Creativity 
Award, for his efforts as founder and editor of the campus publication 
Sidewaves, devoted to cultural exploration of the North Country 
and abroad. He is a member of the Inner Circle, a regional group of 
business leaders, and is a member of the Baltimore/Washington Venture 
Group. MacKenzie has been elected a McCurdy/Sprague Trustee, also 
beginning July 1; these positions are held by alumni who have graduated 
from the University no more than 10 years earlier.
