North Country Symposium At St. Lawrence April 6 & 7

CANTON - St. Lawrence University will host the 8th Annual North Country Symposium on Tuesday, April 6, from 7 to 9 p.m., with registration beginning at 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday, April 7, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m., in Eben Holden Conference Center on campus. Participants may choose to attend either or both sessions.

The symposium is sponsored by the University's Ellen C. Burt '42 Endowment and participation by regional government, business, education, planning and environmental organizations is welcome. This year's theme is "Our North Country Future, Starting Now!"

David Brown, co-director of Cornell University's Community and Rural Development Institute, is the keynote speaker. A demographer and noted researcher on rural development, Brown will highlight the current demographics of the North Country with an eye toward challenges the region is likely to face in coming decades. He will also provide information about ways in which community involvement and planning can help participants to consider possible solutions and initiatives that may improve options.
