ST. LAWRENCE AWARDED GRANT BY NCAA

CANTON – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has awarded a Division III 
Strategic Alliance Matching Grant to St. Lawrence University, to assist in funding a new 
position in athletics. St. Lawrence received one of eight grants awarded under the program.
	With matching funds from the University, a new position has been created, for a coordinator 
of student-athlete support services. The person appointed will also have responsibilities as an 
assistant coach and an assistant facilities manager.
	The Strategic Alliance Matching Grant provides funding for Division III institutions and 
conference offices to enhance gender and ethnic diversity through full-time professional 
administrative/coaching positions in athletics administration. Also, persons holding the 
positions should be a part of the core decision-making process.
	Each institution and conference office selected to receive a matching grant is funded for 
three years, with diminishing contributions by the NCAA. 
	"I am grateful to the NCAA for the Division III Strategic Alliance Matching Grant, as it 
will help St. Lawrence to achieve our goal of making the University a more culturally diverse 
and inclusive environment in which our students can grow and learn," said University President 
Daniel F. Sullivan. "We have invested more than $30 million over the past eight years to add 
seven new sports and significantly upgrade and enhance our athletic facilities. While this 
growth has expanded greatly the opportunities for our students with wonderful benefit for the 
entire campus community, we need the assistance of this grant for bridge funding so that we may 
add a new position dedicated to diversity within intercollegiate athletics and recreation."
