IRISH POET PAUL MULDOON TO READ AT ST. LAWRENCE

CANTON -- Paul Muldoon, the author of seven books of poetry, will 
read from his recent works in an appearance at St. Lawrence University 
on Wednesday, March 7, at 8 p.m. in Herring-Cole Hall. Part of the 
St. Lawrence Writers Series, the event is open to the public, free of 
charge.
	Born in Portadown, County Armagh, in Northern Ireland, Muldoon 
writes poetry with a strong taste for word play. A former student of 
Seamus Heaney at Queen's University in Belfast, Muldoon has won a number 
of awards for his work. His most recent volume of poetry, Hay, was 
published in 1998, and last year, a book of his lectures on Irish 
literature, To Ireland, I was published.
	Muldoon is a professor of poetry at Oxford University and has 
been director of the creative writing program at Princeton University 
since 1990.
