academic honor bestowed upon a junior government major.

to the government department along with excellent academic performance.

wrote the best paper in a government course.

James S. Passanisi ‘06
Robert N. Wells Jr. Scholarship Fund: Awarded to a sophomore government
major for use in the junior and senior year. Students must demonstrate
high academic standards in order to retain the award throughout their
college career. The award was established in 1998 by the friends and
former students of Professor Robert Wells in honor of his retirement
after 34 years of teaching at St. Lawrence University.

Bernard J. Lammers Award: Established by family, friends and colleagues
to celebrate the career of Professor Bernie Lammers, who retired in
2005 after 39 years of service in the government department, the award
is given to an upper-class government major who has demonstrated, either
through course work or a research project, outstanding academic achievement
in the study of government and who has the potential to contribute substantially
in a future role within public administration, public policy, legal
systems or academia.

Professor J. Ansil Ramsay Award: Established by members of the government
department to honor the distinguished career of their colleague, who
retired in 2005 after 35 years of teaching at St. Lawrence. The award

Presidential Diversity Scholar Awards: The Presidential Diversity Scholarship
Program was established to increase student diversity by facilitating
the enrollment of students of African American, Asian American, Hispanic
American and Native American backgrounds and to provide opportunities
for diverse cultural initiatives on and off campus for the recipients.
Awards will be presented to current scholars for academic achievement
and cultural participation.

Ronald E. McNair Scholars: Established and funded by the US Department
of Education, and named in honor of Challenger space shuttle astronaut
Ronald E. McNair, the McNair Scholars Program at St. Lawrence University
encourages graduate study by providing participants with a mentored
research experience, seminars and workshops germane to the pursuit of
the doctoral degree, and opportunities to meet with role models who
have obtained the terminal degree.
