'Service Of Song' Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day At St. Lawrence
CANTON - "Let Freedom Sing! A Service of Song and Readings" will be held at St. Lawrence University in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on Monday, January 18, at 5 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel.
The service, open to the entire community, will feature a number of music ensembles performing songs, including the Community Gospel Choir, the Laurentian Singers, the Ad Hoc Singers, the Up Beats, the Singing Sinners and Singing Saints, and new a cappella African group, Mantswe Amantle.
Throughout the month of January, a number of events related to the themes of peace, community and service will be held, including a panel discussion on Quakerism; a meditation workshop; yoga workshop; lectures and a day of service highlighting the University's Campus Kitchen project, which uses leftover food from campus dining units, other schools and food banks to make and package free meals that can be distributed in the community.
