AUTHOR MICHAEL STEINBERG PART OF SLU WRITERS SERIES

CANTON – Writer Michael Steinberg, founding editor of the literary journal 
Fourth Genre: Explorations in Nonfiction, will appear at St. Lawrence 
University as part of its Writers Series on Thursday, October 9, at 8 p.m. 
in Eben Holden. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
      Steinberg's most recent books include Peninsula: Essays and Memoirs 
from Michigan and, with Robert Root, The Fourth Genre: Contemporary Writers 
of/on Creative Nonfiction and Those Who Do, Can: Teachers Writing, Writers 
Teaching. The University of Michigan Press released his Still Pitching: A 
Memoir, in September of 2003. A "coming-of-age story about growing up in 
New York in the 1950's," Still Pitching details how a passion for 
baseball – a passion fueled by New York's "golden age of baseball," during 
which one of New York’s three baseball teams made it to the World Series 
for 10 consecutive years – transformed the author from an introverted outsider 
into a popular high school pitcher.
      Steinberg teaches in the Stonecoast/University of Southern Maine 
low-residency MFA program.
