SLU'S BRUSH GALLERY EXHIBITING PRINTS BY MELANIE YAZZIE
CANTON - An exhibition of prints by Melanie Yazzie, titled "Untold Stories of My Present,
Past and Dreamtime" will be held at the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence
University from Thursday, November 10, through Saturday, December 10. Yazzie will give a
lecture on her work on Thursday, December 1, at 4:30 p.m. in Room 123 of the Griffiths
Arts Center. It is open to the public, free of charge.
An assistant professor at the University of Arizona's School of Art, Yazzie has
also taught at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico,
and and the Pont-Aven School of Art in France.
She states, "My work speaks about travel and transformation. The insects and bugs of the
Tucson desert have inspired me within the past two years to make many prints. I also
use images or symbols from different places I have been to. I also work in clay and
make pieces that portray little animals that have taken on the personalities of
different people I have known in life."
