MCKNIGHT APPOINTED OUTDOOR STUDIES DIRECTOR AT SLU

CANTON - Associate Professor of Biology Karl B. McKnight has been 
appointed to a three-year term as director of Outdoor Studies at 
St. Lawrence University, Vice President of the University and Dean 
of Academic Affairs Thomas B. Coburn has announced.
	In his new role, McKnight will teach a core course in the 
Outdoor Studies program, in which a minor is offered at the University, 
and oversee the development of an "Adirondack semester." This fall 
program will take place off campus in the Adirondack region, and be 
modeled after St. Lawrence's other off-campus programs of study.
	Additionally, McKnight will oversee the extracurricular work 
of the University's Outdoor Program, directed by Phil Royce. 
	The Outdoor Studies program began at St. Lawrence three years 
ago, and a core course was offered for the first time during the spring 
1999 semester.
	McKnight earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from 
Brigham Young University and the Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. 
He joined the St. Lawrence faculty in 1985 and has directed the 
University's program in Spain.
