A List 1/31/05 VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR CANTON-SLU RACE WEEKEND CANTON – Help the Canton area celebrate wellness by being a volunteer for the second annual Canton-St. Lawrence University Race Weekend, to be held April 29-30. The event includes the Canton-Potsdam Hospital Marathon, a half-marathon and a 5K race. The races will be followed by a day of entertainment on the St. Lawrence University campus, as part of the University's annual Spring Fest celebration. Volunteers are needed for a variety of duties: checking in runners on Friday afternoon and evening; setting up and taking down the race staging area; checking in runners on race day; handing out food and drink before and after the races; handing out water and sports drinks along the course; presenting runners with medals after the race; and cleaning up after the event. Close to 100 volunteers are needed to make the event a success. Those interested may volunteer as an individual, or as part of a group. There will be 12 aid stations along the course and a group may choose to work as volunteers together at an aid station, if requested. Each aid station must be staffed by at least four people at all times, but there may be more people involved at an aid station if a larger group chooses to volunteer together. To volunteer for the event, contact Maureen Williams at mwilliams@stlawu.edu, or by calling 229-5646. Please let us know if you are volunteering as an individual, or as a group. The hours you will work as a volunteer will depend on the job assigned, but volunteers will be needed for various periods of time on Friday, April 29, and between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. You will be notified of the hours you are being asked to work as the race date draws near. -30- Back To News Releases Back to St. Lawrence Homepage
