CANTON-SLU MARATHON BENEFITS ORGANIZATIONS – The planning committee for
the Canton-St. Lawrence University Race Weekend, which took place on May 1
and included the Canton-Potsdam Hospital Marathon, the Thelomathesian Society
Half-Marathon and the Wellness Initiative 5K, has announced that the inaugural
event resulted in the donation of $3,000 to each of its charity partners: Camp
Sunshine and St. Lawrence Valley Renewal House.

Camp Sunshine is a retreat in Casco, Maine, for children with life-threatening
illnesses and their families. The program is free to all and families come
from around the world to attend the camp. The executive director of Camp Sunshine
is 1994 St. Lawrence graduate Matthew Hoidal.

The St. Lawrence Valley Renewal House for Victims of Family Violence is a
non-profit agency providing support and shelter for victims of domestic violence.
Renewal House offers 24-hour crisis intervention; individual and group counseling;
personal and legal advocacy; children and youth services; safe housing; educational
programming; and basic information and referral.

The inaugural Canton-St. Lawrence University race weekend found 230 runners and
over 100 volunteers taking part in the day. The planning committee would like to
thank everyone for their help and participation. The committee would also like to
invite area residents to take part in next year's event, which will be held on Saturday,
April 30, 2005. For more information, contact Bill Burns (229-53291 or
