GROUP AT SLU TO PLAN, TRAIN FOR MAY MARATHON EVENT
CANTON – A group of dedicated runners at St. Lawrence University is planning
to hold a marathon, half-marathon and 5K race in May of 2004, and invites
participation in the planning and training process.
Headed by Director of Counseling Services William Burns, the St. Lawrence
University Marathon Training Group plans to hold the three races on May 1, 2004,
with joint sponsorship by the University and local community. All interested area
runners are welcome to participate in the group and in the races.
To date, details include:
- The staging area for the races – which organizers hope to make an annual
event – will be in front of the new student center, with the starting line likely
to be in front of the bookstore and the races finishing up on the St. Lawrence
track.
- A special race rate will be available at the Best Western University Inn.
- The event will benefit a charity, yet to be determined.
- Volunteer assistance with the race and funding sponsorships will be sought.
According to Burns, the group's focus is on the May 1 races, but training
would also be appropriate for other races held throughout the month of May. More
information on both the training and the races, including registration and
starting time information, will be available soon on the St. Lawrence University
Web site, or contact Burns at 315-229-5391 or wburns@stlawu.edu.
