Madera Vox Ensemble To Perform At St. Lawrence University
CANTON - Madera Vox, an ensemble of a bassoonist, an oboist, a pianist, a vocalist and a percussionist, will perform at St. Lawrence University on Monday, September 26, at 8 p.m. in Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Madera ("wood") Vox ("voice") is an unusual combination instruments and voice, and the ensemble has a distinctive repertoire, as well. Oboist Nicole Golay, bassoonist Cornelia McGiver, pianist Sylvia Buccelli, soprano Kelly Ellenwood and percussionist-composer David Gluck are make up this classical crossover ensemble, performing progressive and provocative masterworks of the double reed trio canon, innovative arrangements and newly commissioned pieces. The group was founded in 2007.
On Sunday, September 25, at 7 p.m. in Room 123 of the Griffiths Arts Center, Gluck will give a multimedia presentation called "Rhythms of the Game: The Line Between Musical and Athletic Performance." Gluck worked with four-time World Series champion and former New York Yankees centerfielder Bernie Williams and educator Bob Thompson on the presentation and a book of the same name. In the presentation, Gluck takes the audience on a journey from "good" to "great," and explains how the most elite athletes and artists conquer their fears, embrace failure and ultimately achieve success.
