Scholar To Lecture At SLU On 'Misquoting Jesus'
CANTON - The 2012 Mackay Lecture at St. Lawrence University, titled "Misquoting Jesus: Scribes Who Changed the Scriptures and Readers Who May Never Know," will be given by Bart D. Ehrman on Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Eben Holden. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Ehrman is the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and is a leading authority on the Bible and the life of Jesus. He is the author of more than 20 books, including the New York Times best-selling Misquoting Jesus, God's Problem, Jesus, Interrupted and Forged. He has appeared on NBC's "Dateline," "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," CNN, The History Channel and National Public Radio, and has been featured in Time, the New York Times, The New Yorker, The Washington Post.
The Mackay Memorial Lecture was established in memory of Kathryn Fraser Mackay '77 by
her family, to honor her interests and spirit. Traditionally, coordination of the
lectures alternates between the departments of philosophy and religious studies.
