Laurentian Singers Perform On Campus After Touring New Orleans, Mississippi
CANTON - St. Lawrence University's Laurentian Singers will perform a concert of American music on Saturday, March 28, at 8 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
The Laurentian Singers, a select coeducational choir of 27 undergraduate singers, gave a series of performances in New Orleans and in Jackson and Hattiesburg, Mississippi, during spring break. They will perform the same program of music for this post-tour home concert, including Randall Thompson's choral classic The Peaceable Kingdom, a setting of texts from the Book of Isaiah and inspired by the Edward Hicks painting of the same name, and songs associated with the Civil Rights movement, as well as some popular tunes.
Directed by Barry Torres and accompanied by Barbara Phillips-Farley, the Laurentian Singers ensemble was founded in 1946. For more information, contact the music department at 315-229-5184.
