Life & Dance In The Middle East Explored In Presentation At St. Lawrence

CANTON - A presentation called "Silent Joy: The Truth About Life and Dance in the Middle East" will take place at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m. in Room 123 of the Griffiths Arts Center. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

Aegela (Angela Bear), a teacher and performer, will speak about the lives of the everyday woman in the Middle East and how dance, as well as other facets of their lives, is hidden from public view. She will also discuss professional dancers and their place in celebration and cultures, and dance culture in Egypt.

As a follow-up to this presentation, an introductory class in belly dance will be offered on Friday, April 1, from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 40 of the Griffiths Arts Center. It is open to all, free of charge.
