PIANIST PLANS PERFORMANCE OF DANCE MUSIC AT SLU

CANTON - Pianist Max Lifchitz will perform "Tangos and more!," piano 
music from the Americas, on Sunday, April 1, at 4 p.m. in Gilbert 
Recital Hall of Griffiths Arts Center at St. Lawrence University. 
The concert is open to the public at no charge.
	Lifchitz will perform piano music written by composers from 
Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States. 
The works bracket a 140-year period, from 1850 to 1988, and all feature 
dance or dance-based pieces. Composers included in the recital are Louis 
Moreau Gottschalk, Carlos Chavez, Manuel Ponce, Heitor Villa-Lobos and 
Alberto Ginastera.
	Born in Mexico City, Lifchitz is founder and director of the 
New York City-based chamber ensemble North/South Consonance, which 
since 1980 has presented an innovative series of concerts featuring 
composers from the Americas. This ensemble has premiered more than 500 
works. In recognition of his work on behalf of American and Latin American 
composers, Lifchitz received the United Nations Peace Medal in 1982.
	The recital is supported by the James W. Hutchison Endowment for 
Keyboard and the Birdsong Endowment for Music.
