'LONG CHRISTMAS RIDE HOME' PRESENTED AT ST. LAWRENCE
CANTON - The play The Long Christmas Ride Home, by Paula Vogel, will be
performed at St. Lawrence University Wednesday through Saturday, April 5 through 8,
at 8 p.m. each evening in the Black Box Theatre, Griffiths Arts Center. Admission
is free, but tickets are required; they are available at the Gulick Theatre box
office from Monday through Friday, April 3 through 7, from 1 to 5 p.m.
The play concerns a single Christmas Eve for three young siblings and how it has
a profound effect on their adult lives. The Long Christmas Ride Home is a play
written and intended for an adult audience. Its content is not suitable for children.
Vogel, an acclaimed American playwright, won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1998
for her play How I Learned to Drive. The Long Christmas Ride Home is presented using
actors and Bunraku-inspired puppets to tell the story. Bunraku is a Japanese form of
theatre dating back to the late 17th century that uses realistic puppets for
storytelling purposes.
The St. Lawrence production is directed by Associate Professor of Performance and
Communication Arts Kirk Fuoss. For information, call 315-229-5192.
