Novelist Lawrence Hill In St. Lawrence Writers Series February 2

CANTON - Lawrence Hill, author of the novels Some Great Thing and Any Known Blood, will speak and read from recent work in an appearance at St. Lawrence University on Monday, February 2, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event, part of the Writers Series, is open to the public, free of charge.

Hill's most recent novel, published as The Book of Negroes in Canada and as Someone Knows My Name in the U.S., won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize and the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize. He is also the author of the memoir Black Berry, Sweet Juice: On Being Black and White in Canada and The Deserter's Tale: the Story of an Ordinary Soldier Who Walked Away from the War in Iraq (written with Joshua Key).

In 2005, the 90-minute film documentary that Hill wrote, Seeking Salvation: A History of the Black Church in Canada, won the American Wilbur Award for best national television documentary.
