SLU's Laurentian Singers Perform At Home Following Tour Of France

CANTON - The Laurentian Singers of St. Lawrence University will present a concert on Friday, March 25, at 8 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel on campus. The concert is open to the public free of charge, and will give home audiences the opportunity to hear the selections performed during the Singers' spring break tour of France.

The repertoire for their tour, entitled "Vive la France," features French music, including sacred motets from the 15th and 20th centuries; 16th-century chansons; Maurice Ravel's only a capella choral composition, Trois Chansons, and a Norman Luboff arrangement of the beautiful folk song "A la Claire Fontaine."

Three of the singers will be bringing their fiddles with them to play some Quebeçois tunes, and the concert will also include an arrangement of the Beatles song "Michelle," as well as other selections.

The Laurentian Singers, a select coeducational choir of 24 undergraduate singers, has maintained a wide-ranging repertoire throughout its 65-year history, drawn from musics of many styles and countries, reflecting the spirit of the liberal arts experience at St. Lawrence. The Laurentian Singers includes undergraduate students who represent a variety of academic majors and interests. They are directed by Barry Torres.
