Recession's Effect On U.S. & Canadian Economies Topic For SLU Talk
CANTON - Larry Schembri, the Bank of Canada's adviser to the Governor, will give a talk on Tuesday, April 26, at 7 p.m. in Room 123 of the Griffiths Arts Center at St. Lawrence University, on "The Great Recession: A Tale of Two Economies - Canada and the United States." The event, part of the economics department's visiting speaker series in political economy and the University's Contemporary Issues Forum, is open to the public, free of charge.
The recent financial crisis and economic recession were less severe and the recovery stronger in Canada than in the United States. The differing experience of the Canadian and U.S. economies provides important lessons for macroeconomic and financial sector policy.
Schembri has been a faculty member at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His publications include articles in the Journal of International Economics, the Canadian Journal of Economics, the National Bureau of Economic Research conference volumes and the Bank of Canada Review.
