POET QURAYSH ALI LANSANA IN SLU'S WRITERS SERIES

CANTON - Poet Quraysh Ali Lansana, director of the Gwendolyn Brooks Center for Black Literature and Creative Writing at Chicago State University, will speak and read from recent works in an appearance at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, November 2, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event, part of the University's Writers Series, is open to the public, free of charge.

Lansana is the author of They Shall Run: Harriet Tubman Poems, the poetry collection Southside Rain and the poetry chapbooks Greatest Hits: 1995-2005 and cockroach children: corner poems and street psalms. He has edited several anthologies, including Glencoe/McGraw-Hill's African American Literature Reader. Lansana won the Poet of the Year award in 2000, presented by Chicago's Black Book Fair, and the Henry Blakely Award in 1999, presented by Gwendolyn Brooks.
