SLU Student Group to Host Former U.S. Ambassador to the E.U. April 11
CANTON – Kristen Silverberg, the former U.S. ambassador to the European Union during the final months of the Bush Administration, will give a talk about the global financial crisis on Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the Hepburn Auditorium at St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Silverberg was previously assistant secretary of state for International Organizations for the U.S. government. In that role, she was in charge of the Bureau of International Organization Affairs, a part of the State Department.
Prior to her appointment to the State Department, Silverberg served the White House in various roles, including special assistant to the president in the Office of the Chief of Staff, deputy assistant to the president for domestic policy, and deputy assistant to the president and advisor to the chief of staff.
Before joining the Bush Administration, Silverberg was a policy advisor on the 2000 presidential campaign in Austin, Texas, according to the White House website. She earlier practiced law at Williams and Connelly in Washington, D.C. She also served as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and David Sentelle, U.S. Court of Appeals judge for the District of Columbia. Silverberg earned her bachelor's degree from Harvard and her law degree from the University of Texas.
