SLU SETS PRESENTATION ON HIP-HOP CULTURE

CANTON – Lecturer, journalist, author, educator and activist Kevin Powell 
will give a presentation called "Hip-Hop: The Music, The Culture, The 
History" at St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, February 22, at 8 p.m. 
in Gulick Theatre. The event, part of the University's celebration of 
Black History Month, is open to the public, free of charge.
	Powell is the author of six books, including his most recent, 
Who's Gonna Take The Weight?: Manhood, Race and Power in America, which 
is an Essence magazine bestseller. His work has been published in Essence, 
Ms., The Washington Post, Newsweek, Rolling Stone and Vibe, where he 
worked for several years as a senior writer.
	He is also organizing a series of town-hall-style meetings 
across America, called the "State of Black Men Tour," that will take 
place in approximately 20 cities by December.
