MEMORY FUNCTION IS TOPIC FOR LECTURE AT SLU

CANTON - Raymond Kesner, professor of psychology at the University of Utah, will present the 2007 Richard D. Church Lecture in Neuroscience at St. Lawrence University on the topic "A Process Analysis of Memory Function in Animals and Humans: The Role of the Hippocampus." The lecture, on Tuesday, October 16, is at 8 p.m. in the Winston Room of the Student Center and is open to the public, free of charge.

Kesner, a recipient of the University of Utah's prestigious Distinguished Research Award, is a leading researcher in the realm of learning and memory. He has authored more than 140 publications and more than 30 chapters and books on the subject. Kesner's research interests are in the theoretical and applied aspects associated with the neurobiological basis of learning and memory in both animals and humans. Recently his work has concentrated on the development of animal models paralleling mnemonic symptomatology in brain-damaged patients.

The Richard D. Church Lectureship Fund in Neuroscience was established in 2006 by retired engineer Church, of Norwood, in honor of his scientific collaborations with the late G. Atwood Manley, who graduated from St. Lawrence in 1916 and was the long-time editor of the St. Lawrence Plaindealer; the late Class of 1952 graduate Edward E. Bliss, Church's brother-in-law and national canoeing champion partner; the late Class of 1914 graduate Clarence C. Church, Richard Church's uncle; and the late Emeritus Professor of Physics Alfred Romer.
