Electro-Acoustic Piano Concert Offered At St. Lawrence University

CANTON - Pianist and composer Keith Kirchoff will perform an electro-acoustic piano concert on Friday, February 11, at 8 p.m. in Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall at St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

Seven very different pieces will be presented; some are highly interactive, while others simply play along with a pre-recorded "tape." One piece is a duet for piano and Nintendo Wii.

Kirchoff has premiered over 100 new works and commissioned over a dozen compositions. He has appeared with orchestras throughout the U.S. performing a wide range of works, including the Boston premier of Charles Ives' Emerson Concerto and the world premier of Matthew McConnell's Concerto for Toy Piano. Kirchoff performs in an unusual style integrating lectures into his programs, striving to enhance the status of classical music in American culture and stressing the importance of modern music to keep the art alive and current. The co-founder of the composers' ensemble "Agenda," he has also appeared with the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble and performs regularly with the Callithumpian Consort, Boston's premier modern music ensemble.
