MEDITATION IN RECOVERY TOPIC FOR TALK AT SLU

CANTON - The Rev. Saigo Terrance Keenan, an ordained Zen
Buddhist priest, will give a talk/workshop on "Healing and
Recovery," about the use of meditation in recovery treatment
and changing community attitudes towards addiction, on Monday,
April 22, at 7 p.m. in the Formal Lounge of the E.J. Noble
University Center at St. Lawrence University. In addition,
Keenan will give a reading and sign copies of his book,
St. Nadie in Winter, at St. Lawrence's Brewer Bookstore on
Tuesday, April 23, at 4 p.m., and also on April 23, he will
conduct a workshop on meditation in Herring-Cole at 7:30 p.m.
All events are open to the public, free of charge. No previous
experience in meditation is necessary.
A former Buddhist chaplain at Syracuse University,
Keenan drafted a document that became the center of a sea-change
in attitudes towards substance abuse there. His recent book,
St. Nadie in Winter, recounts his own struggles with substance
abuse and the spiritual path.
The talk and workshop on healing and recovery will be
of special interest to those who work with people dealing with
substance abuse, or those who are struggling with it themselves.
Anyone interested in meditation, including beginners and
experienced practitioners, will benefit from the meditation
workshop.
