SLU Speaker To Address 'Iraq, Afghanistan and the Presidential Contest'

CANTON - Historian and author Juan R.I. Cole will give a talk titled "Iraq, Afghanistan and the Presidential Contest" on Monday, October 20, at 8 p.m. in Eben Holden at St. Lawrence University. The event, part of the Contemporary Issues Forum, is open to the public, free of charge.

Cole is Richard P. Mitchell Distinguished Professor of History at the University of Michigan. He has written extensively about Egypt, Iran, Iraq and South Asia and writes a regular column for Salon.com. For three decades, Cole has sought to put the relationship of the West and the Muslim world in historical context, and his most recent book is Napoleon's Egypt: Invading the Middle East (Palgrave Macmillan, 2007).

The Contemporary Issues Forum brings experts and participants in the making of news to campus throughout the academic year.
