
A List 10/22/01 CLASSICAL GUITAR RECITAL PLANNED AT ST. LAWRENCE CANTON - Award-winning guitarist Joseph Shields will give a recital at St. Lawrence University on Sunday, November 4, at 4 p.m. in Gilbert Recital Hall. The performance will include works by Bach, Villa-Lobos and Shields, among others, and it is open to the public, free of charge. A Yale University graduate, Shields performs frequently as a recitalist and chamber musician. Recent performances include the U.S. and world premieres of works by Lois Vierk and Adam Silverman and a performance with soprano Marilyn Mulvey. He was awarded Yale's 2000 Eliot Fisk Prize, which goes to "an outstanding guitarist." Shields' compositions for guitar, published by Tuscany Publications, have drawn praise from audiences and artists alike. In addition to being a performer, composer and teacher, he has served on the faculties of Shawnee State and Marshall University.
