CANADIAN AUTHOR JOHN METCALF TO SPEAK AT ST. LAWRENCE
CANTON – John Metcalf, one of Canada's most distinguished writers, will speak
and read from his recent works in an appearance at St. Lawrence University on
Thursday, February 12, at 8 p.m. in Eben Holden, as part of the St. Lawrence
Writers Series. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Metcalf has, according to the Oxford Companion to 20th Century Literature
in English, an "abiding reputation as one of the finest prose stylists in
contemporary Canada." Born in Carlisle, England, and educated at the University
of Bristol, he emigrated to Canada in 1962. Metcalf is the senior editor of the
Porcupine's Quill press, in Erin, Ontario, and the editor of Canadian Notes and
Queries. His two most recent works are An Aesthetic Underground: A Literary
Memoir and Forde Abroad.
