'Politico' Editor, Author To Speak At St. Lawrence

CANTON - John Harris, editor-in-chief of the Washington, D.C.-based newspaper and Web site Politico, will give a talk at St. Lawrence University titled "47 Months and One to Go: The 2008 Presidential Election" on Monday, October 13, at 8 p.m. in Eben Holden. The event, part of the Contemporary Issues Forum, is open to the public free of charge.

Following graduation from Carleton College, Harris worked at the Washington Post, covering national, Virginia and local politics. He covered the Clinton White House from 1995 to 2001, and wrote the 2001 book The Survivor: Bill Clinton in the White House. Harris is also the author of the book The Way to Win: Taking the White House in 2008, about presidential politics.

He began working on the print publication The Politico and the Web site politico.com in 2006. With a focus on Congress, the presidential campaign, lobbying and advocacy, the stated goals of the paper and site are "to assemble the most talented and interesting collection of journalists and turn these reporters loose on the subject they love - national politics."

The Contemporary Issues Forum brings experts and participants in the making of news to campus throughout the academic year.
