SLU TO HOST 'JESUS SEMINAR ON THE ROAD' SEPTEMBER 16-17
CANTON - "Jesus in the First and 21st Centuries" is the topic for a "Jesus Seminar on the Road" taking place at St. Lawrence University on Friday and Saturday, September 16 and 17. The Jesus Seminar is a group of scholars that meets twice a year, discussing research on "the quest of the historical Jesus."
The seminar
features a lecture and workshops, and is open to the public,
with fees varying according to participation and date of registration;

The event is part of St. Lawrence's celebration of its Sesquicentennial;
among the topics being explored during the year is the University's
Universalist heritage.
A lecture,
titled "The Search for the Historical Jesus," begins the event on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Herring-Cole. On Saturday, workshops on "The Jesus of the First Century" and "The Jesus of the 21st Century" are
planned by Thomas Sheehan and Daryl D. Schmidt.
Sheehan
is a professor of religious studies at Stanford University and
the author of The First
Coming,
a widely acclaimed and controversial account of Easter. His philosophical
specialties are in philosophy of religion, 20th-century European
philosophy and classical metaphysics. Schmidt is John F. Weatherly
Professor of
New Testament at Texas Christian University. A general editor
of the Scholars Version translation
project,
MORE
he is the author of The Gospel of Mark: Scholars Bible Edition (1991)
and editor of Forum, the scholarly journal of the Westar Institute,
a member-supported,
non-profit research and educational institute dedicated to the
advancement of religious literacy.
